Feel Glade by going on a Scented Journey

Some of you might have wondered where I’ve disappeared to…well I started my own business, called Sugar and Vice. Which is a long lasting dream come true. You can read more about my journey here. I decided to start blogging again when I was approached by Glade® to write about their new scents. So here goes…

Have you ever walked into a room and smelled a scent that instantly brought up a fond memory? I'm sure everyone has and I have a few that I would like to share with you:
  • The scent of freshly baked cookies reminds me of my granny’s kitchen

  • When we have covered the bed with freshly washed linen, we can’t wait to jump in bed and smell and feel the bedding

  • The scent of a bunch of fynbos and proteas reminds me of my other gran’s farm, as it was her favourite flowers and always had a bunch in her home.

I love how these scents make me nostalgic and brings up happy emotions. I love creating a beautiful home to live in and I keep myself busy with constant DIY projects, but a room isn’t complete without adding a lovely scent. Glade® just realeased four new scents, which are:

The amazing thing about these scents to me are that when I released it in a room, it took me on an emotional journey that made me feel a specific way. The Glade® Lavender & Vanilla brought out calmness and content. The Glade® Ocean Escape made me feel totally relaxed, just how I would feel at a seaside cottage. The Glade® Morning Freshness created an exhilarated and inspired atmosphere, where the air felt full of possibilities. Last but not least, the Glade® Clean Linen reminded me of the fresh and new linen I was talking about earlier.

Someone once told me that if you have a first date, you should be frying onions in the kitchen so that the aroma fills the whole house when your date arrives. Apparently he will be smitten over you. I’ve also heard that some real estate agents get scents of freshly baked cookies that they release in the aircon, which could influence the potential buyers to buy the house. Clever ideas, which make you realise how important a great smelling home is.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the new Glade® scents and what emotions it brings to live for you. These new scents are available to purchase in stores now. You can reply to this blog or tweet with #FeelGlade.

Arniston - My paradise

This place used to be my December bliss. We went here every school holiday and I couldn't get enough of it, especially after I made loads of friends there. I used to tell my dad, please just leave me here and go back to work. I will fend for myself, catch fish and make my own food. I will hike to Bredasdorp and go to school there. He just laughed it off and good on him as my little fantasy would probably have left me in tears when I started missing everyone back home.

My boyfriend and I went there recently for a weekend. I wanted to have a relaxed weekend before I embarked on my freelancing career.

It was such a blessing to see this double rainbow on the way there.  Arniston is about 200 kms from Cape Town.  Not too far to drive for a weekend getaway.

Interior Decorating Project - Buitenkant Street {Buying Schedule Proposal}

My next phase of my Interior Decorating Project is to set up a buying schedule proposal for the client together with the budget.  The client then approves it or make any changes and then we can go shopping!  My budget is R10 000 and I only went over by R9000 hahaha!  My client has been travelling abroad and I have only been communicating with her online, so there was quite a few things I still wanted to discuss with her.  I rather over budgeted with some things, but a lot of items might not be needed, as she could have it already.  She wants to rent her apartment our through Airbnb, so I took that into account.  When the guests check out, you need to wash the one set of towels and bedding and replace it with a fresh set.  So I budgeted for two sets.  Here's an outline of what I suggested that should be bought:

ENTRANCE HALL:

Welcome mat, chevron blue runner rug and curtain fairy lights to contribute to ambient lighting.

LOUNGE:

Tones of grey, natural wood, chevron and geometrical influences.  She already have a cream couch, coffee table, TV stand and a flat screen TV.  We are going to paint her feature wall grey, as it is blood red at the moment.

Healthy Lunch for one - Roast Chicken Salad

This one is super easy cause I totally cheated! I made a lovely roast chicken for Sunday Lunch, my BF and I dished up small portions. I'm usually not that hungry after I've made a meal as I can't help myself and pick at the food constantly. Naughty Natty! My BF commented: "Oh are you gonna eat chicken for the rest of the week?" and I answered: "Yes!" (Thinking how on earth will I do it?!) I don't believe in wasting food. I love thinking of ways to turn leftovers into new meals.

So Monday arrives and I'm thinking what can I do with the roast chicken? All I had to add was add salad, but I'm not thinking lettuce, tomatoes or cucumbers. Can't really eat those in winter! I remembered that the Vredehoek Spar's got great ready made salads. A medium serving is only R26.00 and you can get two portions out of it. Their salads are different each day and only contain yummy things like veggies, olives, cheeses, barley, nuts and seeds. If I had to buy these ingredients separately and make it myself, it would work out expensive and I probably won't be able to use all the ingredients before it goes bad.

Milnerton Market Treasure Hunt

Do you like vintage stuff at affordable prices? Then you will like Milnerton Market.  Some people won't even waste their time going there, as they think - who would want other peoples trash.  I DO!  I love old things, it give me a nostalgic feeling and I imagine what the background and history would be of every piece. I went there a while ago and look at the treasures I found:

I paid R5 for this copper deer ornament that you can hang on the wall.  I was imagining hanging it outside on my balcony with other ornaments and succulent plants.  I haven't done it yet!

Propagate your Lucky Bamboo

I love lucky bamboos. I received my three lucky bamboos from my sister for my birthday about three years ago. They have grown so much since. I wanted to cut them shorter, but knew that there must be a certain way to do this. So I went to my old faithful and reliable friend, Mr. Google. I discovered this video on how to propagate bamboo. It was so easy and I couldn't wait for the shoots to grow out again.

Interior Decorating Project - Buitenkant Street {Look and feel proposal}

I was totally blown away when my friend asked me to give her apartment in Cape Town CBD a bit of a face lift.  I said: "HELL YEAH!" She wants to rent her apartment out through Airbnb and wants to make it nice.  I thought I would share my creative journey with you and perhaps inspire you along the way.

I studied Interior Decorating, but never pursued the career as I got caught up in my Marketing career.  The only interior decorating jobs that i have done, has been my own home and giving advice to friends.

Firstly I sent her a look and feel proposal, to see if I am on the same page as her and she responded that she is.  So the next step is to do the schedule with the breakdown of what I propose I purchase with the costing.  Then my favourite part: shopping!!  Watch this space for the development of my project.

Best easy breakkie - Greek yogurt, banana, almonds, honey and cinnamon

I'm not one of those people who can have the same thing for breakfast everyday day in and day out.  So I try and mix it up as much as I can.  I will share one of my breakfast options with you now.  I also try my best to follow #banting and #lchf eating plan.  This breakfast is really easy to make and it taste bloody delicious.

Decorate those walls of yours too - my photo frame collage

I was very excited to have a blank wall above my amazing couch that I could decorate with a frame collage.

I got my inspiration from Melissa from her blog, Miss Molly Fashions and started looking for photo frames to start my collage.

 I started with any odd frames that I had floating around in my house and drew up the layout of the frames with the prints on InDesign.  I looked at the colours, placement and design and what looked right next to each other.
